how would I know to decode the code with base64? is there some kind of pattern indicating it should be decoded with base64 or just need experience to be able to identify it?

Mainly experience; but base64 is limited to a certain set of characters.

False flags don't feel good unless you clearly make it so that people know. This could hurt beginners, so yeah

It's such a simple problem that the false flag just makes it a little more difficult.

Probably should be marked as 'medium' as it requires a couple of steps, especially since the flag is fake, which for newbie like myself makes for a fair bit of wasted time. If you want to use a fake flag, us it to give a hint...the decode was far from obvious
